Taft is a proud sponsor of
Taft Faculty Write (TFW). Designed and executed by
Professor Laura Micciche, English, (TFW) sessions, are free and open to faculty at any rank, any college. TFW is premised on three basic ideas: writers benefit from being in an environment in which writing is prioritized; sustained motivation and consistent progress can be helped by peer accountability; and a structured schedule and set of flexible writing strategies can together contribute to successful writing sessions. During each session, participants gather in a virtual and/or physical space to work on independent writing projects alongside one another, debrief about their progress and challenges, take structured breaks, and try out low impact stretching. The goals of TFW are as follows:
- To produce a portion of writing for a research project.
- To nurture productive writing habits for completing writing in a timely fashion.
- To establish reasonable short- and long-term writing goals.
- To create a community of writers who keep one another motivated and accountable to goals, and who serve as empathic listeners during discussion of writing issues.
- To develop awareness of successful and unsuccessful writing strategies and to adjust in light of that awareness.
TFW is regularly offered as a weeklong Maymester session; in addition, during the academic year, sessions are held on four Fridays each semester in the FEC, which provides light refreshments to in-person participants. TFW announcements are distributed by the FEC and the Taft Research Center; participants may sign up via
