Distinguished Taft Professors

The program is designed to reward our most outstanding faculty with a title, and a $20,000 dedicated research fund ($4,000 per year), for a period of five years. Taft Professorships are awarded based on scholarly distinction. Faculty with a reputation for outstanding scholarship, particularly scholarly work done in the recent past that can be expected to continue into the future, will be most competitive. This honor is open to all Taft-eligible tenured (associate or full) faculty who successfully demonstrate an active, innovative research agenda. Underrepresented minorities are especially encouraged to apply.

In 2023, Taft elected two new, under the format for Taft Professors: Drs. Sharrell Luckett and Shailaja Paik. For more on our new Distinguished Taft Professors, please visit their research listing at the following URL:

This program was changed in late 2022, from a previous model that allowed faculty to hold the Distinguished Taft Professors until retirement. Awards were based on scholarly distinction; faculty with a reputation for outstanding scholarship, particularly scholarly work done in the recent past that can be expected to continue into the future, will be most competitive.
